Feminine Products

The biological differences that separate men and women can be numerous, but none are more glaringly antonymous than our unique genitalia. However, the differences here begin to multiply, especially when it comes to care. For men, it is easy to make sure they stay clean, but for women, there are a couple more steps. Products such as pads and tampons are necessary for the vast majority of women, and help with sanitation and overall cleanliness.

Despite their benefits, these products are not universally available, and can be an expensive expenditure on tight budgets. However, their benefits are plentiful and many spend time to pick them up.

Unfortunately, some women do not have this luxury. Yes, many parts of the world struggle with basic nutritional and shelter needs, and it is easy to gloss over the necessity of feminine products, but there exists a population within the United States that does not have regular access to the healthcare they need. This of course, is the incarcerated population.

They have committed crimes, but is it fair to neglect their personal health because of it? Having access to basic healthcare such as tampons should not be difficult, yet it is a problem that is continuously receiving attention. The Texas Department of Criminal Justice is seeking to remedy this by seeking bids to establish a purchase order for the procurement of tampons and other feminine personal hygiene items. The incarceration system is already a harsh environment; there is no need to further punish individuals by withholding basic hygiene items.
